Penny Sawmill In Northern BC
McMillian and Earl Jack renamed the mill Penny Sawmills in 1931. It again changed hands in 1945 when it was sold to Dutton and named The Standard Tie and Timber. In 1948 the mill burned to the ground but a new mill took its place and ran until 1953. Once again it was sold. This time to Fred Thurston and it became Penny Spruce Mills. It was bought out by the Eagle Lake Sawmills in 1958 and ran until 1963. Portable mills operated under Northwoods until it’s final closure in 1965.
